The roof of a tunnel at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project in Telangana collapsed 24 hours ago, trapping 8 workers inside.
Rescue Update: A large rescue team of 300 members, including experts from the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), Army, and other agencies, has reached 11 km inside the tunnel. They used a special train that normally transports workers and materials to get closer to the trapped workers.
The team has reached the tunnel boring machine (TBM) spot, which is near where the workers are trapped.
However, rescuers have not yet been able to contact or communicate with the trapped workers.
Government Response:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and promised full support from the Central Government for the rescue operation.
